Humans interact with the environment daily and play a big part in the environment. In Montana humans like to preserve the land, but mining was a big part of the Great Plains. The problem with mining was that it destroyed the land in the process, so the people wanted to stop all mining in order to preserve land. They succeeded in 1872 when the General Mining Law was passed, which stated that you could only start the mining process if gold had already been seen or spotted. Another standard that has been created to protect the land is the Mercury and toxic emissions standard, which was put in place to protect the pollution of air from the many power plants in Montana.
People grow tons of crops in Montana such as grains and timber, and they also raise lots of cattle. Farmers also have to use the lakes to water all of their many crops. Montana is also known for its large hunting and wildlife since 30% of its land is owned by government parks. One example of Montana's government parks is Yellowstone National Park which stretches 3,472 square miles across Montana and Wyoming and has sixty seven mammal species. Humans hunt and kill tons of animals daily in Montana and that's another way they interact with the environment. Some of these interactions can be destructive, like the mining, but some can also be beneficial such as the ranching and farming, but each one is a way that the people of Montana interact with the environment around them.
